How can your business avoid accidentally polluting local streams?

Wilkinson Environmental Ltd are in the area this July, running a business environmental advisory programme.  The Pukekohe Business Pollution Prevention Programme is funded by the Franklin Local Board. It is designed to give independent expert advice to businesses to help them avoid accidentally polluting their local stream.

Rainwater from the Pukekohe Town Centre drains to underground stormwater drains that feed into the Whangapouri Stream and the Tutaenui Stream.  Both streams are habitats for wildlife such as koura (native freshwater crayfish) and native fish like eels and bullies.  Both streams eventually make their way to the sea.  One of the biggest potential sources of pollution entering these streams is from incidents like spills on yards that get washed into stormwater drains, into a stream and eventually into the sea.

Representatives from Wilkinson Environmental Ltd will call in to local businesses to provide them with free advice on how to manage their water pollution risks. This is a business-friendly programme and nothing to feel threatened by.  We encourage all businesses approached to take part.

Please ensure areas of your site that flow to stormwater drains are kept free of contaminants, and that you have a plan in the event of a spill on your site.

This programme is funded by the Franklin Local Board as part of its commitment to improving the water quality of local streams. The programme is being delivered by Wilkinson Environmental Ltd.
