Welcome...
... to new members:

Changes to The Loop
Please be advised that this will be the final email copy of The Loop.
While feedback of the content has been positive, it is felt that sending it out via email is restricting the number of people who read it, and a paper version of The Loop, delivered to businesses, would be a better option.
With this in mind, we will now be producing The Loop in a paper version once a month. The first version will be delivered in the third week of September, and we will then aim for all future editions to be delivered around the middle of each month.
We will still have copies on the website, and if you would prefer to continue receiving a copy by email, please let us know.
Franklin Arts Festival
Your friendly reminder ...
Franklin has an amazing array of artistic talent and it will be on display at the Franklin Arts Festival which is open to the public from Saturday 4th September.
Opening Night is this Friday, 3rd September and this is your chance to celebrate with the winners, chat with like minded people and buy some artwork if it tickles your fancy ... if you haven't got your ticket already, now is the time to get it!

Graffiti & Vandalism
Unfortunately, this is not a problem that is going to go away in a hurry so we thought it appropriate to repeat an article, provided by Community Constable Noel Surrey, in June this year.
There are a number of companies locally than can help you out ... and whilst Noel cannot recommend any person or company, you may benefit from knowing what is available and who supplies it.
Paint Resistant Coatings:
Resene (our local shop supplies, of course!) - 238 1022 (54 Seddon Street, Pukekohe)
Graffiti Doctor - 0800 482 437 or www.graffitidoctor.co.nz
Etching On Glass:
Etching on glass is a film that covers etching and is cheaply replaceable if re-etched.
Glass Masters - 0800 452 777 or www.glassmasters.co.nz
GSL Glassguard - Ltd - 09 525 7652 or www.gslglassguard.co.nz

The upgrade work in Seddon Street will go out to tender in the next three weeks. Planning has commenced on the next stage of work, which includes Stadium Drive from Edinburgh to Hall Street, Massey Avenue from Manukau Road to Roulston Street, Roulston Street and Juwala Singh Lane.
Volunteer and Events New Website
A new website that aims to boost the capability and capacity of the events sector, and make it easier for New Zealanders to get involved with volunteering has just gone live. VolunteerNet (www.volunteernet.org.nz) connects volunteers with event-based volunteering opportunities. It works a bit like an internet dating website, where individuals can register as volunteers and search for event opportunities that match their skills and experience. Event organisers can register and search for volunteers who have the skills and experience they require. VolunteerNet was launched on 20 July 2010 and already has almost 200 keen volunteers and over 20 event organisations registered.
VolunteerNet's objectives are to:
- enhance the volunteer recruitment and management process for event organisers
- increase the network of skilled volunteers available to the events sector
- make event-related volunteering opportunities more accessible to all New Zealanders
- connect volunteers with opportunities that match their skills and experience
- help promote volunteering in New Zealand in general.

Dress Up Your Window
A HUGE well done to the retailers and businesses who have got behind the red, black and white theme to promote the Counties Manukau Steelers. As of Monday August 9, 18 businesses have made the effort to transform their windows into all manner of Counties gear and colours.
Stonz Jewellers have an in-store promotion where you will get a signed Tana rugby ball if you spend over $100. Pukekohe Travel has a Counties clothesline in the window, Notrie Vie Candle store with the golden Tana boots, The Chocolate Shoppe with a range of old rugby team photos and boots, ANZ Bank with the Counties mannequin, Maternal Instinct with everything 'children' red, black and white, Mel Clarke Menswear with everything red, black and white for the bloke, Footloose with their "Steeler of a Sale". The list goes on ......
There has been great feedback from visitors to the town on the last home game. Alison from The Chocolate Shoppe and Ingrid from The Flower & Gift Shoppe and their band of helpers were busy blowing up balloons and decorated the poles on the main street. A big boo to the kids that thought it was a great joke going up the street at 2pm and popping them all.

Get ready for the next home game - Saturday 21 August - against Manawatu - kick off at 5:30pm. Then Thursday night rugby (02 September) has kick off at 7:35pm against Tasman. Calling all cafes, restaurants and pubs - be ready for the crowds on these days!
Updating - judging will be done on Friday with winners being advised Friday afternoon. Good luck ...
Switch My Route
On the weekend of 4/5 September, the southbound carriageway of SH1 (in the vicinity of the Newmarket viaduct) will be closed to carry out the necessary works to enable Transit to open the new southbound bridge by Monday 6th September. To avoid major disruption on the surrounding arterial road network it is essential to avoid driving anywhere in Auckland during the weekend unless absolutely essential. For more information click here.
Franklin's Heritage Festival
When: 23 September to 3 October 2010
Preparations are now well underway for Franklin's first Heritage Festival, with the official opening to be held on 23 September at Franklin The Centre. Franklin's Heritage Strategy was adopted in 2008, and one of the recommended actions was that a regular Heritage Festival be developed. The aim of the festival is not only to provide a platform for promoting and raising awareness of Franklin's heritage, but also to provide a forum where various community heritage groups can share their work and interests.
Planned highlights from the Heritage Festival include:
- Opening of an historical photographic exhibition at Franklin the Centre (by invitation only)
- Historical photographic exhibition by the Pukekohe Indian Society at Nehru Hall
- Naming of the Lady Franklin Reserve in Waiuku and unveiling of a plaque
- "Wedding Dresses Through the Ages" event, hosted by Karaka Historical Society
- High Tea at Tuakau Tavern with an historical guided tour of the hotel
- Franklin Governance photo exhibition by the Franklin Historical Society at the former Pukekohe Borough Council building
- Field trip to a Ngati Te Ata pa site.
There are many more events planned, and publicity will start in the second week of August. It is hoped that the Heritage Festival will become a regular event promoted by both the new Franklin Board and by Waikato District Council.

Who is your most important visitor?

A customer is the most important visitor on our premises. He is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption in our work. He is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider in our business. He is part of it. We are not doing him a favour by serving him. He is doing us a favour by giving us an opportunity to do so.

World Class City
Speaker Series #4
Wednesday 28 July 2010
Can world-class Rugby teams and a six week sporting event help build a world-class city?
International expert, Greg Clark thinks it can.
Currently working with the Mayor of London to prepare London for the 2012 Olympic Games, keynote speaker, Greg Clark, will share over 20 years of experience working with cities and regions around the world to demonstrate how the Auckland region can best use Rugby World Cup 2011 to contribute to the development of our region, its businesses and inhabitants.
This session is an opportunity to learn more about why and how RWC 2011 is helping to develop Auckland into a world class city, and what opportunities that presents for you and your community.
You'll also hear from two high-profile Auckland businesses that have already seized some of the opportunities presented by New Zealand's hosting of the world's third largest sporting event, to develop infrastructure, increase brand awareness, drive sales and build relationships beyond the event itself.
Auckland International Airport has used RWC 2011 as the impetus to fast track infrastructure developments at Auckland Airport to position itself as the gateway to New Zealand and the Pacific. ANZ is a Worldwide Partner and the Official Bank of Rugby World Cup 2011, so what does the Bank hope to achieve from this profile?
Don't miss this rare opportunity to hear what Rugby World Cup 2011 really means for Auckland and our businesses, from one of the world's foremost experts on regional development.

Time: 3.00pm - 5.00pm
