President's Report - June 2011

Our new Constitution has now been formally adopted and registered, and we have only one further step in the process to become a Business Improvement District (BID) – the election of a new committee.  This occurs on 23 June and is the culmination of many months of hard work.

We are looking for committee members who represent the wider local business community and who will bring fresh ideas to the group.  The formal requirement of the committee is a two hour executive meeting each month, though they will be expected use their wider networks to support the objectives of the association.

If you are interested in being nominated for a role on the committee, please take time to read the strategic plan on the website under the BID tab, and talk to one of the existing members.

Once we have the committee in place we will be eligible for funding from the council including funding for more staff, marketing of the town to both prospective businesses and customers and initiatives to keep our town clean and safe.

Pukekohe North Initiative.

It is great to see the work being undertaken in Pukekohe North, where they are running a number of projects to improve their community.  This is a great opportunity for businesses to get involved in the local community. If you believe that you can help please contact Aaron Clarke of the steering committee – his details are later in this newsletter.

Town Tidy Up

We are planning a bit of a spruce up of the town prior to the RWC on August 14, all materials will be supplied. If you, or a group you are involved in, can help please let Kendyl know - we are having a planning meeting for this on June 21.  We really want Pukekohe to be looking her best when the visitors roll in to town.

July Business After 5

Next months meeting will be a combined event with the Waiuku Business Association and Patumahoe businesses, in Patumahoe.  We are expecting a celebrity speaker – to be confirmed (watch for our email).  Waiuku traditionally has a great turn out for their monthly events, so it would be great if we could lift our numbers!  ATEED is partnering with us for these events by sponsoring the catering.

I look forward to seeing you at one of the meetings we have over the next month!
