As promoted in The Loop this month, the PBA is continuing to focus on ensuring our town doesn't lose its identity now we are part of Auckland City. The most effective way to do this is to become a Business Improvement District (BID).
The PBA shared some very important information with you at the February BA5 meeting ... and now we would like to share with you some of the successes of other Business Improvement Districts in the knowledge that we can give you insight into what can be achieved by a structured and disciplined approach to BIDs.
To achieve this, the PBA needs the support of all businesses in Pukekohe! Accordingly, we invite you - and friends, colleagues, business associates - to enjoy beer, wine and nibbles at this months Business After 5 meeting.

Business After Five Welcome ... Changes to The Loop Franklin Arts Festival Counties Manukau Steelers - next game Graffiti & Vandalism
Business After Five
The next Business After Five to be held at the Engine Room offices is on this Friday, 3rd of September.
Click here for all the information.
... to new members:
Please be advised that this will be the final email copy of The Loop.
While feedback of the content has been positive, it is felt that sending it out via email is restricting the number of people who read it, and a paper version of The Loop, delivered to businesses, would be a better option.
With this in mind, we will now be producing The Loop in a paper version once a month. The first version will be delivered in the third week of September, and we will then aim for all future editions to be delivered around the middle of each month.
We will still have copies on the website, and if you would prefer to continue receiving a copy by email, please let us know.
Your friendly reminder ...
Franklin has an amazing array of artistic talent and it will be on display at the Franklin Arts Festival which is open to the public from Saturday 4th September.
Opening Night is this Friday, 3rd September and this is your chance to celebrate with the winners, chat with like minded people and buy some artwork if it tickles your fancy ... if you haven't got your ticket already, now is the time to get it!

A new website that aims to boost the capability and capacity of the events sector, and make it easier for New Zealanders to get involved with volunteering has just gone live. VolunteerNet (www.volunteernet.org.nz) connects volunteers with event-based volunteering opportunities. It works a bit like an internet dating website, where individuals can register as volunteers and search for event opportunities that match their skills and experience. Event organisers can register and search for volunteers who have the skills and experience they require. VolunteerNet was launched on 20 July 2010 and already has almost 200 keen volunteers and over 20 event organisations registered.

A HUGE well done to the retailers and businesses who have got behind the red, black and white theme to promote the Counties Manukau Steelers. As of Monday August 9, 18 businesses have made the effort to transform their windows into all manner of Counties gear and colours.
Stonz Jewellers have an in-store promotion where you will get a signed Tana rugby ball if you spend over $100. Pukekohe Travel has a Counties clothesline in the window, Notrie Vie Candle store with the golden Tana boots, The Chocolate Shoppe with a range of old rugby team photos and boots, ANZ Bank with the Counties mannequin, Maternal Instinct with everything 'children' red, black and white, Mel Clarke Menswear with everything red, black and white for the bloke, Footloose with their "Steeler of a Sale". The list goes on ......
There has been great feedback from visitors to the town on the last home game. Alison from The Chocolate Shoppe and Ingrid from The Flower & Gift Shoppe and their band of helpers were busy blowing up balloons and decorated the poles on the main street. A big boo to the kids that thought it was a great joke going up the street at 2pm and popping them all.
Get ready for the next home game - Saturday 21 August - against Manawatu - kick off at 5:30pm. Then Thursday night rugby (02 September) has kick off at 7:35pm against Tasman. Calling all cafes, restaurants and pubs - be ready for the crowds on these days!
Updating - judging will be done on Friday with winners being advised Friday afternoon. Good luck ...
On the weekend of 4/5 September, the southbound carriageway of SH1 (in the vicinity of the Newmarket viaduct) will be closed to carry out the necessary works to enable Transit to open the new southbound bridge by Monday 6th September. Preparations are now well underway for Franklin's first Heritage Festival, with the official opening to be held on 23 September at Franklin The Centre. Franklin's Heritage Strategy was adopted in 2008, and one of the recommended actions was that a regular Heritage Festival be developed. The aim of the festival is not only to provide a platform for promoting and raising awareness of Franklin's heritage, but also to provide a forum where various community heritage groups can share their work and interests.
Planned highlights from the Heritage Festival include:
There are many more events planned, and publicity will start in the second week of August. It is hoped that the Heritage Festival will become a regular event promoted by both the new Franklin Board and by Waikato District Council.
